Cancellations and New Opportunities

So my show in Bingen, WA got cancelled. BUT! I was offered wall space at an awesome Tattoo shop! This painting and my Rhino are hanging in this great shop in Vancouver WA called Dark Star Tattoo. If you live in the area these paintings are for sale! Go and check them out! 

Here's the under painting of my latest creation for my Painting Class. 

I've been keeping busy with a couple of projects. One being repainting this large mural, that hangs on the side of The Crab Bowl! I have to drive by this restaurant all the time, and the roughness of this mural has always bothered me. So, I drew up a sketch and built up the nerve to go in and ask the owner if I could repaint it for him, and he said yes!

Gallery Show and Beauty

I have a show coming up this Friday! I'm showing four original paintings, with two other artists I believe. My theme is a kind of skewed Beauty and the Beast. My show is in Bingen, Washington. More Information on the Events Page.
My show was cancelled.  

Here is a little bit of the process I've been going through. 

Of course, I couldn't help but make a little nod at the Fourth of July. My boyfriend and I went down to the waterfront and watched them set off fireworks from the barge in the middle of the Willamette. I couldn't help but be a little entertained by the amount of people holding their phones, cameras, and iPads above their heads trying to get a good picture of the fireworks.

I got a couple fashion designers that wanted me to draw their clothes on  a couple models for them. Initially I was excited and happy to work with them. However, after I drew the first model (the one on the right),  they complained that the model was too "FAT", and demanded that I redraw it. Now, it is of my opinion that naturally thin people, and naturally curvy people are all beautiful. But, when curvy people have to starve themselves in order to fit the industry standards, there's something wrong with that.

An unfinished sketch of my '79 Suzuki GS750L, which I started while it was sunny, but didn't get to finish because it started to rain. I have a feeling that Portland is trying to tell me I need to draw faster or something.

This is Tim.

Tim is a Youth Pastor.

Now before you get all up in arms about it, you should know that I'm not a religious person, never have been. I believe in myself and what I'm capable of.  But, Tim didn't judge me because I didn't believe in God and I didn't fit in to the normal group of kids. He was kind to me and encouraged me to draw. Tim is the kind of person that I believe everyone should strive to be. He's selfless and an incredible role model, who doesn't judge people based on how they look, what they believe in, or if they 'fit in.'  He's done a lot of good work and I believe in him, and that he makes other people's lives better. Not only that, but he has a great face :)

Annnnd  on a slightly less serious tone have an Angry Panda! 

And when I got to class this morning there was brown paper on the tables so I drew on them while people did their final project presentations.

Stuck between a train and space

The lovely image above would be my Split complimentary painting for Illustration Painting B, and below would be the disaster I ended up turning in for the collage project in Visual Techniques... Lesson? Amanda should not be aloud to try to cut paper out and glue it on other paper in an attempt to create an image. Instead she should devote herself to increasing her skill in Tradition and Digital Painting. *nods*

My Analogous Painting for Illustration Painting B

I started out very optimistic on this, I really did. I was excited, and I become very detail oriented and obsessive about getting things perfect. So, instead of working the entire painting, I worked on parts. So, I spent 4 hours painting the dress, and it shows, but by the time I finished painting the dress to my satisfaction it was 3 in the morning and I had to sacrifice the quality of the rest of the painting so I could get some sleep. The bottom image is what I ended up turning into my teacher the next day. I plan on repainting just about everything except the dress when I get it back, because it has the potential to be awesome it just hasn't gotten there yet, because -like all other art college students- I fail at time management when I'm at home. 

And a progress painting we're doing right now where we do multiple poses 20-40min at a time and we have to arrange them on the page together without knowing what the next pose will be... it's quite frustrating. 

A sleugh of things to make up for the lack of things

My Math Teacher believes that if he puts it on the white board we must swear to it like it's law. What's even better is when he writes 162.00 ... .reallly? point zero zero? Is that really necessary? He's great and he reminds me of Robin Williams - except for his jokes are very nerdy and hardly ever does the punch line actually hit, but it's cute all the same. 

A couple more Tattoos I drew for people lol I'm wracking them up now. Also a picture of another one I drew for Kayla that she got almost immediately after I sent it to her. That's 3 people  now that have my artwork permanently tattooed on their bodies ^u^ I feel super special.

And last but not least a Monochromatic Exercise for Painting of my Grandma in Acrylic, took approx. 1 hour.
